My thoughts are anxious and self-focused. I need my thoughts to focus on Jesus and Who he is. Whatsoever things are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise...
This is why we do as Paul did and limit our message to the cross. "For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified!" This is where all the power is. This is where all the love is! This is where the light is!
Isaiah 61:1-3 (NCV) The Lord GOD has put his Spirit in me,
because the LORD has appointed me to tell the good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort those whose hearts are broken,
to tell the captives they are free,
and to tell the prisoners they are released.
2 He has sent me to announce the time when the LORD will show his kindness
and the time when our God will punish evil people.
He has sent me to comfort all those who are sad
3 and to help the sorrowing people of Jerusalem.
I will give them a crown to replace their ashes,
and the oil of gladness to replace their sorrow,
and clothes of praise to replace their spirit of sadness.
Then they will be called Trees of Goodness,
trees planted by the LORD to show his greatness.
I am realizing there is power in the cross, there is so much love at the cross, there is strength and rescue at the cross and victory. To look at the cross it helps put everything else into perspective.

I have hope, joy and peace today because of what Jesus did on the cross."
I love that her "hope, joy and peace" is routed and founded in the cross. Anything other than that is temporary and will take us right back into despair. But the cross, oh the powerful cross, it breaks our chains of despondency and lifts up our chin to look into Jesus' face.
Question 5. Please take a moment and think about what God’s Word has said to you today. What are your thoughts at the close of this lesson?
"I am fully accepted, I am loved by Him, I am treasured by Him and I am adored by Him. I have been going to the cross every time I have been depressed, angry, frustrated and hurt. And every time I overcame those negative emotions. I realized Jesus’ cross is more powerful than my awful thoughts."
Question 6. Have you received the gospel of Jesus Christ today in your study of God's Word?
"I have received the gospel today. It helps me in every aspect of my life, Jesus is restoring my life and the lives of people around me one step at a time, one prayer at a time, one visit to the cross at a time. Thank You Jesus for becoming real in my life!"
Question 7. Have you applied the gospel of Jesus Christ in your life today?
"Absolutely, I always go to the cross before I hurt someone or before I spiral down into depression. The Spirit of God is doing major work in my heart. I am undergoing surgery, spiritual surgery that is. The light of Christ is changing everything, praise the name of Jesus Christ my Savior and Lord!"
"I realized Jesus’ cross is more powerful than my awful thoughts." Yes! There's more power in the cross than in my negative self-talk. This power is a "purchased power", meaning Jesus gave His all to defeat my thoughts and to remove the negativity.
Here is what Jesus purchased for us when He died on the cross:
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (NCV) We fight with weapons that are different from those the world uses. Our weapons have power from God that can destroy the enemy's strong places. We destroy people's arguments 5 and every proud thing that raises itself against the knowledge of God. We capture every thought and make it give up and obey Christ.
