"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is always the same. He never changes. He is faithful and steadfast. His promises are sure. His love endures. (James 1:17, Deuteronomy 7:9, Joshua 21:45, Romans 4:21, Psalm 136:1)
I have pondered what does this all means for believers in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
From before time began, God had a plan to reunite man with the ability to live with Him. God knew that man's sin would be the wedge between Himself and us. He knew that somehow, someway, His wrath against sin would have to be appeased. What would bridge the chasm sin created between God and man?
The plan was that God, Himself, would provide a perfect, sinless sacrifice that would once and for all cover the sins of men. This sacrifice would involve the death of a perfect Lamb and His blood flowing out of Him. That blood would cover all our sins and appease God's wrath.
The only sacrifice that met all of these requirements was Jesus Christ, the perfect, sinless Son of God. He came to earth as a man and lived a sinless life. He knew all along that He was going to fulfill His Father's will. So with joy set before Him, He went to the cross and was crucified for our sakes.
So we have been given a way to be able to be united with God once again. Sin had put a barrier between God and man, but Jesus destroyed the barrier on that horrible cross long ago. Sin and death were defeated when Jesus died and rose again.
So come to the cross daily. Let His life-giving blood flow over you. Embrace all the promises listed above, for they are for God's children. This invitation will never change or end until Jesus comes again. Jesus is faithful and steadfast. His promises are our sure foundation. Who else can provide eternal life with God in heaven above?
So as I continue to ponder all He has done for me, I will come daily to the cross and bask in His great love for me. I will walk by His Spirit who dwells in me. I will war against my desires that do not honor Him. I invite you to come and feel His great love. He died so we might live. All this because God so loved the world.
