This morning the Lord brought me to Psalm 84:1. “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of Hosts.” My mind immediately went to thinking about heaven. But the Spirit brought to my mind the truth that the Lord dwells in me.
This thought stopped me dead in my tracks. The Lord dwells in me. His Spirit came to live in me when I put my trust and faith in Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I have known this for most of my life, but how often do I meditate on this knowledge? The Lord of Glory lives inside of me.
I asked myself, "How lovely is His dwelling place inside of me? Is it kept as clean as it should be for a King, or is it filled to the brim with the dirt of my sin?"
Only by coming to the cross each day and being washed continually in the fountain of the blood of the Lamb of God can I keep the filth out of my soul. For Jesus suffered, bled, and died so that I might have salvation through Him. Forgiveness is mine because of the cross. (John 3:15, Romans 8:32)
When I yield my life to the guidance of the Spirit, He leads me along the righteous paths that God has planned for me. (John 16:13) I walk by His power to live a life of obedience to God.
I am given all I need to fight my sin as a soldier of the cross. God’s full armor (Ephesians 6:10-17) is given to me. I am battle ready because of the Cross.
So, to keep clean the dwelling place of God in me, I must wash at the cross daily, walk by the Spirit, and fight my flesh.
Only then will I be a dwelling place that is fit for my King.
