Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
Matthew 4:23
The very act of preaching the ‘good news’ points us to the cross, also the acts of healing. The sin that has infected the world has consequences; guilt, shame, sickness, fears and anxieties, demonic possession in some cases - all the consequence of sin. The consequences must be dealt with somehow, we must ‘pay the price!’
Or else someone who is qualified must pay the price for us (purchasing us back from our slavery!)
The purchase price of course is death, for all sin earns that one penalty, death.
There is also a beautiful flip side to this picture. Notice how Jesus healed ‘every disease and sickness.’ His blood atones for every sinner who will come to him at the cross. Yes, EVERY sinner who throws themselves upon the Saviour at his cross.
All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.
John 6:37
