This morning I read Deuteronomy 6:4-5, "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might."
I wondered how did this passage speak the Gospel truth to me. Before I finished my prayer, God's answer was on my heart. He opened my eyes to see that glorious and wonderful news that all Scripture speaks this truth into our lives.
Taking these verses apart, here is what they said to me.
  • "Hear, O people of the earth: the Lord our God, is one." One in the Father, one in the Son, one in the Spirit. Each one works in me. God the Father sent His Son to earth as the atonement for my sin. Jesus died as the perfect substitute sacrifice. In this act of love, I have salvation from sin and death. The Spirit came into me when Jesus came into my heart. He lives in me and speaks to me God's truth.
  • "Love the Lord with all your heart" - Come to the cross daily and wash. Keep your heart cleansed from sin in the life-giving blood of the Lamb of God.
  • "Love the Lord with all your soul" - Let your soul be filled with the Spirit of God. Walk by the Spirit and in His power, which is the power that raised Jesus from the dead.
  • "Love the Lord with all you might" - Stand in that power of the Spirit, put on the whole armor of God, and war against your flesh.
Such wonderful and marvelous grace I was given today by the God who loves me and you.
