Lesson 22: Living in the love of Jesus
Questions 3 and 4
We are to put on love, which binds everything—compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forbearance and forgiveness—together in perfect harmony. You might think of love as the belt that holds on all your gospel given clothes. Without biblical love, it all falls apart.
To be sure, this isn't the romance novel, romantic movie, love ballad foolishness that the world suggests is love. The world says, "I fell in love" or "I fell out of love." The world speaks ridiculous lies such as, "Love means never having to say you are sorry." The world regularly confuses infatuation and lust with love.
Question 3. Can you think of some wrong ideas about love that you have been told or perhaps even believed at one time? Please share.

With so many wrong ideas about love circulating in the world today, we as Christians are frequently tempted to believe lies about love which is harmful to our hearts and relationships. If we want to avoid this pitfall, we must look to God’s Word for the clear and correct understanding of biblical love. If we want to combat the lies of the world, our flesh and the devil, then we must learn from Jesus what true love is.
1 John 3:16 (NIV) provides a clear definition for us: “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.”
