Lesson 12: Who is to Blame?
Question 6
In Genesis 3, God demonstrated the Way of Salvation. He had the Plan that would succeed. God put to death an innocent animal and provided a covering for Adam and Eve.
Revelation 13:8 tells us that Jesus’ death on the cross and subsequent resurrection was the plan of God the Father, Son, and Spirit before the universe was created. By one man’s disobedience (Adam), humankind was plunged into a life of sin; but by one man’s (Jesus) act of obedience, we are redeemed (Romans 5:19). Because of Jesus, our situation is full of hope!
We feel the same shame and blame and nakedness that Adam and Eve felt. Our natural inclination is to say, “It is his fault.” “It is her fault.”
But Jesus reaches out His arms and says, “Blame me, Father. I will take on all the shame, nakedness, and guilt. I will receive all Your wrath. I will atone for the sins of my people. I will die so that they can be covered. I will pay for their sin.”
Friend, fix your eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2):
See Him dying to take away your sin and that of your spouse.
See Jesus suffering and pouring out His whole life so that you and your spouse might be forgiven, and your marriage might be saved.
See Him rising again and ascending to the Father victorious (Hebrews 1:3).
See Him interceding on your behalf, praying for you right now (Hebrews 7:25).
Don’t get caught up in the blame-shifting trap of the devil. Instead, look to Jesus and be filled with the joy of your salvation and hope for your situation.
