Lesson 1 Gospel Hope

Questions 6 and 7

Hosea 6:2 says that God will revive and restore you, which points forward to the fact that you were counted “in Christ” when He died and when He rose from the dead. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is active in you if you are a believer (Romans 6:4, 8:11; Ephesians 1:19-20).
Yes, there is real hope for you in Jesus for, not only did He suffer to bind up your wounds, but He also has resurrection power that can change everything. Maybe you feel like your marriage is dying or already dead, but just as Jesus was raised from the dead, even so, Jesus raises dead marriages! There is hope for you and your spouse in Christ!
We can also learn from this passage that the healing that God provides might take time. “After two days, He will revive us; on the third day, He will restore us” (Hosea 6:2). Healing is not always instantaneous as there may be time between being “torn to shreds” (Hosea 6:1) and being “restored” (Hosea 6:2). This passage tells you that you can have hope in God to heal, restore, and provide strength in His time.
As my husband was coming out of impurity, life for us was like a roller coaster. He was up one day and down the next. He would be demanding one day and kind and loving the next. For a long time, I rode these ups and downs with him—it was emotionally exhausting!
If you’re experiencing this instability, too, I want to share with you how I found hope and faith to persevere and how you can also. It goes right along with our subject of today. Stability comes from finding genuine hope in God and the gospel.
Consider the following passage of Scripture from the book of Hebrews. It helps to know that the book of Hebrews was written to Jewish Christians who lived in a time of opposition and persecution. They were attacked from within and without. They needed the same kind of hope that we need.
God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm, and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, Hebrews 6:18-19 NIV
Wow, I love these verses! For those of us who’ve been lied to time and time again, it is so comforting to know that “it is impossible for God to lie.” We can trust Him and run to Him to take hold of the hope offered to us in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Oh, friend, if you are hurting and feeling tossed back and forth like a ship without an anchor, let me share with you the anchor I found that held me safely through this storm. My anchor is Jesus, and, specifically, what He accomplished for me on the cross and in His resurrection. I learned how to depend on Him and trust in Him so that I am safe in Him regardless of my circumstances. This hope I have in my Lord Jesus Christ is an anchor for my soul, and it can be for you, too.
The following is a podcast that I did with my husband Mike on this subject of gospel hope.

Question 7. This lesson was on having hope in the gospel. Why is it important for you to hope in the gospel of Jesus Christ when facing the trial of sexual impurity in your marriage?
