In the previous lesson, we started our study on the abundant life that Jesus came to give us, and we studied the first six verses of Isaiah 35, noting how they depict this abundant life in Christ.
Now, let's continue our study in Isaiah 35, and see new truths about our abundant life in Christ, which flows from His death on the cross:
“the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; in the haunt of jackals, where they lie down, the grass shall become reeds and rushes. 8 And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it. It shall belong to those who walk on the way; even if they are fools, they shall not go astray. 9 No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there. 10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” Isaiah 35:7-10

We see from Isaiah 35:7 an accurate description of what happens in salvation. The "burning sand" becomes a "pool," and the "thirsty ground" becomes "springs of water."
The life in sin is a "burning" and "thirsty" experience, without satisfaction. I remember that time in my life, and it was very much like a desert. I turned to impurity, food, alcohol, immoral relationships, and more attempting to quench the burning of my heart and relieve my thirsty spirit. It was a challenging time for me and all who knew me.
Question 2. Can you recall a time when your life could be characterized by "burning thirst," too? If so, please describe it here:

Damien writes, "My life for over 12 years was a constant thirsting, an eternal parching, and no one could tell me, even if they tried, that porn, stealing, lying, overeating, and whatever else my dark little mind could think of couldn't heal the ache within me. Every day for years, the cycle of destruction continued."
One of the most beautiful things that happen when someone repents of their sin and turns to Jesus Christ is that they begin experiencing deep soul satisfaction; they find that Christ is the real answer to their deepest yearnings and longings. My life today can be described as satisfied in Jesus and learning to be genuinely content in Him. But it is more than that. God is not only quenching my thirst with Jesus, but He is also enabling me to give grace and truth to others. Truly this former "burning sand" is becoming a "pool" and the previously "thirsty ground" a "spring of water."
Referring to the Holy Spirit as a "river of living water," Jesus said this:
"Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'" John 7:38
