The way of the Christian is a highway, friend. It is a clear way and an unambiguous road. It is a "straight path" (Proverbs 3:6), a "level highway" (Proverbs 15:19), a highway that "turns aside from evil" (Proverbs 16:17). On this spiritual highway, God Himself "instructs us in the way" (Psalm 25:8). He does this through His Word, which says, "This is the Way, walk in it" (Isaiah 30:21).
The Christian highway might also be called "The Way of Abundant Life" for we see that on it are the "ransomed" and "redeemed" who are "singing," experiencing "everlasting joy," and finding that "sorrow and sighing shall flee away" (verse 10). The devil's power, also, has been removed from this highway for "no lion shall be there" (verse 9). The power of sin, the curse of the law, and the control of the devil have all been conquered at the cross of Jesus, who opened and paved this highway for all who believe.
This holy highway is the "abundant life" that Jesus purchased for us when He died on the cross. We could even say that the Highway is Christ Himself, for He is "the Way, the Truth, and the Life" (John 14:6), and through Him, we "obtain access by faith into the grace in which we stand" (Romans 5:2).
By way of summary, these past two lessons, we have studied the "abundant life" that comes through the death of Jesus Christ on our behalf. In these lessons, I have joyfully remembered what Jesus accomplished for me, and my heart has rejoiced in the Lord. I hope yours has too.
If, however, you are weary, burdened, and troubled, may I encourage you to stop and consider the cross? As the old hymn says:
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

If you are one that sees no light in the darkness yet, look to Jesus and find light and life in Him. The abundant life in Jesus awaits you.
Question 5. Considering your own heart, are you finding life in Jesus’ death? What are your thoughts? Please share:

Sandy writes, "For many years I could not understand the concept of "death of self," it sounded gruesome, scary, painful, and difficult because it is. I know; I have walked through it with Jesus. The only thing I regret is that I wasted so many years fearing it and avoiding it. Now I have learned that to die to self is to live in Him, and living in Jesus is life abundant."
Wendy writes, "In Jesus I find true fulfillment and satisfaction. Nothing else give such everlasting joy. I want to keep my focus on the cross where true abundant life is found."
