Lesson 29: Words of Triumph

Questions 7 and 8

We have been sanctified through Jesus, dear friend! We were born in sin, but through Jesus, we have been born again into a new life set apart from the power of sin.
Through Daniel, the Holy Spirit prophesied of the cleansing and sanctifying work of Jesus:
"Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place.” Daniel 9:24
Jesus was sent to put an end to sin, to atone for our sins, to bring in eternal righteousness for us, and He did it all by dying sacrificially on the cross. When Christ died, all the sins of His people died with Him. When Jesus died, our sins were dealt a death-blow. No believer will ever have to answer for one sin as our sins have already been answered for, removed from us, and annihilated in the Person and work of Jesus Christ. Jesus “finished transgression” and “put an end to sin” when He said, “It is finished!”
When Jesus died, "the Lord laid on Him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:6). And since God laid our iniquities on Christ, they are no longer on "us all." Jesus had no sin in Him but had sin placed on Him, and while sin remains in us because of our flesh, there is never sin on us because of Christ's sacrifice. There is no condemnation for those in Christ (Romans 8:1); we are free from all accusation (Colossians 1:22) because all our sin, along with its guilt, shame, and blame, was transferred to our Substitute, Jesus!

Question 7. According to Isaiah 53:6, what happened to all our sin?

We, believers, are blessed beyond measure in our Lord Jesus! Our enemy Satan has been defeated. Satan's weapon of death has been destroyed through Jesus' death on the cross and victorious resurrection! The law of God has been fulfilled for us by Jesus; there is no longer any curse or condemnation for us in Christ. Jesus has made atonement for our sins; we are eternally safe in Him. Our sins are gone, erased as if they never existed! Jesus' work is finished, but our experience of it will never end. Throughout eternity, we will be singing the praises of our Beloved, who gave Himself for us to redeem, ransom, and rescue us from sin, death, hell, and God's justice. “It is finished!”

Derick writes:
"I always heard and even read the scriptures in John 19:30 that declares, "It is finished!" But because of today's lesson, I finally understand it! I can see what and how it was finished. It is so amazing what God sent His Son to do, but it is so much more amazing that Jesus loved His assignment so much that He finished it with power. I am so grateful!"
Miles writes:
"I believe this without doubt, That Christ died for the ungodly, That even tho sin may remain in me that is my sinful nature it no longer remains on me. It has been taken and crushed under God's wrath on the body of His beloved Son and the work of Jesus life, death and resurrection is FINISHED!!!"
Wendy writes:
Wow! Jesus went a long hard road for us! What tremendous LOVE! We could never have been so good to earn a way into heaven. Neither could we have found a way that would erase our shame and guilt. Jesus did it all for us! Wow! He lived the perfect life that the law required to be accepted by God. That probably wasn't the biggest sacrifice for Jesus, but being punished and experiencing God's wrath must have been a horrible sacrifice. Imagine being beaten and cursed for something you never did or even intented to do! But that's what Jesus did!!! He was crushed for my sin! Wow! Because of Jesus's work, I can go free, really free as if I lived the perfect righteous life, Jesus lived! This makes me want to love Jesus with all my heart and to give Him the thanks and worship He deserves."
