Lesson 8 – Faithfulness
Question 4
Let's look at some other verses that use the word faith (pistis). Notice how faith is used to help us understand its use as faithfulness:
"Now faith is the substance (confidence, foundation, assurance, the reality), of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (2) For by it (faith) the elders obtained a good testimony. (3) By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible." (Hebrews 11:1-3 NKJV)
Faith pístis (G4102) is the conviction of the truth of everything we read in the Bible. There is a belief in the Bible, confidence or belief respecting man's relationship to God and divine things through the Cross's finished work. By faith, we overcome the world:
"For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. (5) Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?" (1 John 5:4-5 NKJV)
Faith IS all about Him, our triune God; our faith comes from Him and glorifies Him.
