Lesson 12 – Being Fruitful

Question 11

Come to the Cross and look up – Look at the Cross with me.
There nailed to the top of the Cross – Jesus' crime: "The King of the Jews." (Matthew 27:37; Mark 15:26; Luke 23:38; John 19:19)
If you are crucified with Jesus – what crimes would be listed?
Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like;
Jesus took these upon Himself for you – your crimes became Jesus' crimes.
As the soldiers strip Jesus of His clothes – He is nailed to the Cross and lifted up: (Psalm 22:18; Matthew 27:35)
Look up:
  • Look at the crown of thorns, blood running down His face (Matthew 27:29; Mark 15:17)
  • Look at the face, distorted by beatings, beard pulled out, eyes swollen, beyond recognition. (Isaiah 50:6; Isaiah 52:14; Matthew 26:67
  • Look at His back torn apart by the whips, like furrows plowed in His back. See the bones through the torn flesh like hamburger. (Psalm 22:17; Psalm 129:3
  • Look at the nails in His hands – stretched out (Psalm 22:16
  • Look at the nail in His feet – holding up His weight. (Psalm 22:14
  • Look at Jesus lifting up His body to catch a breath as His back rubs against that rugged Cross.
  • Look at your sins placed upon Jesus, that list of crimes that causes the Father to judge and pour out His wrath upon His Son. (Isaiah 53:4-6; 1 Peter 3:18)
  • Look at the foot of the Cross – blood flowing down the Cross, blood pouring from His wounds. The blood of Jesus covers the ground. (Colossians 1:19-20)
Listen:
  • Jesus prayed: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34
  • Jesus said: To His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" To John, "Behold your mother!" (John 19:26-27)
  • Jesus said: to the believing thief, "Today, you will be with Me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43)
  • Jesus cried out: My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? (Psalm 22:1; Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34)
  • Jesus said: "I thirst!" "It is Finished!" (John 19:28-30)
  • Jesus said: "Father into Your hands, I commit My spirit." And He died. (Luke 23:46
The soldier thrust a spear into His side, into His heart; water and blood came out. (John 19:34)
Jesus was removed from the Cross. The nails were removed, and the body was wrapped and placed into a tomb. (Isaiah 53:9; Matthew 27:59-60; Mark 15:45-46; Luke:23:50-56; John 19:38-42)
Then on the third day – Jesus rose victorious over sin, death, and the devil. Yet, He still bore the marks of the Cross. (Matthew 28:1-8; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-12; John 20:1-10)
Can you stand there at the Cross and looking up at your Savior and continue in your sin? Let the Cross break your heart – continue looking and let the Cross heal your heart. The blood is sufficient to cover all of life. The blood will always wash. Come to the Cross, and there learn to walk in the Spirit.
