Day 21. The Means of Grace
Question 1
There is an important phrase that you need to know: “The means of grace.” If we acknowledge that we are saved by grace (Ephesians 2:8–9) and that we grow and mature by grace (2 Peter 3:18), then it is important to know how we receive grace. What are the means that God uses to give us grace?
We might think about gasoline in a car (or electricity if your car is electric). This is the means by which the car functions and accomplishes what it was designed to do. Similarly, we will talk this week about the means of grace, that is, the way in which God enables you and I to function and accomplish what He wants us to do.
“I understand that I’ve been crucified with Christ and that the way to victory is to die to sin and live the resurrection life by the power of the Holy Spirit, but sometimes I just don’t! Sometimes I fall; I feel like a failure because I know what’s right and I want to do it, but it seems I just keep doing wrong.” -Jason
If you identified at all with the quote from Jason, please know that, to some degree, this is the normal experience of every Christian. It’s like stubbing your toe on the same piece of furniture or stumbling over the same tree root on your usual hike in the woods.
Question 1. What has been your experience with repeated stumbles?
