Lesson 29: Washing, Walking, and Warring: An Illustration
Question 8 and Testimony
Staci writes, "Through the Setting Captives Free: Freedom from Substance Abuse course, I have learned about "washing at the cross," which reminds me of Jesus' supreme sacrifice to save me from my sins and to make me free, which helps me to take my eyes off myself, stop looking inward, and instead fix my eyes on Jesus. Walking by the Spirit reminds me that the Spirit of God is inside me, continually pointing me back to Jesus. When I am walking by the Spirit, I am not giving in to the sinful lusts and desires of my flesh. Warring against the flesh teaches me that, as a believer, I have a responsibility to obey the Lord. I must deny my sinful flesh as I continue to look to the cross and walk by the Spirit.
Studying and living by these truths has transformed me. I am thankful to be learning to take every thought captive to the obedience of the Lord Jesus Christ. Through this course, God gave me insight into a battle plan that I implemented; it was a very specific plan and one that I continue to pray about. One of the biggest changes in my life has been in my daily routine. My day now has structure and firm boundaries, which help me keep my focus on Jesus.
I have told many friends about Setting Captives Free and the different courses that are offered. The content is biblical and theologically sound. I have found it to be a great encouragement. I was just telling my husband earlier today that it almost seems like a discipleship course, one that all believers in Jesus Christ should go through. It actually offers practical ways to live the Christian life. I have been a Christian for decades and have never taken a course like this one. I am already looking forward to my next Setting Captives Free study!"
