Lesson 2 Washing at the Cross
Questions 5 and 6
THE EFFECTS OF THE FOUNTAIN
Friend, look at all that would be accomplished on the day the only child was pierced, and the Shepherd was struck! This piercing would open a fountain of cleansing where people could come, wash, and be cleansed from all sin and impurity. This fountain would also remove idolatry. Idolatry is simply the worshipping of something or someone other than the real God.
We can treat substances as our “god”; therefore, they become “idols” to us. We turn to them when trying to deal with guilt and shame, or maybe to drown out the voice of our conscience, when we are bored or angry, when hurting, when bitter about things or people who have hurt us, or when just wanting to escape our lives for a time. I think I turned to substances for all of the above at various times.
Question 5. How about you? Please share the reasons why you turn to alcohol, drugs, and/or cigarettes.

As we saw from Zechariah 13:1-2, coming to the “fountain” of the cross washes all this idolatry away! This God-ordained fountain also banishes the spirit of impurity from the land. Or, stated another way, the fountain that flows from the cross has the power to make us truly clean, forgiving our sins and washing us deeply and thoroughly from the inside!
THE HOPE OF THE FOUNTAIN
Such is the powerful cleansing of the fountain, friend! Do you want this kind of washing? This deep cleansing of the soul that washes our sin away entirely and removes idolatry from the land and frees us?
Question 6. Do you want this kind of washing? Share your thoughts.
