Lesson 21 Warring Against our Flesh, Praying God’s Word

Question 4

Did you notice in the last picture that people who reeled and staggered like drunkards were at their wit's end, and then they cried out to the Lord, and He brought them out of their distress (Psalm 107:27-28)? They didn't turn to man's programs or worldly wisdom but rather to the Lord. They cried out to Him, and He brought them out of their distress.

Praying His Word

Oh, friend, this is how to wrestle with God: take His Word, latch on to it, and pray it back to Him. What we are saying is, “Jesus, you said that if I remain in You and Your words remain in me that I could ask whatever I want and you would do it for me. I am asking for freedom from substance abuse, for your glory and my good.”
The exciting thing is that we have a huge Bible to pray back to God. We can latch onto a verse, passage, even a chapter a day, and wrestle with God in it, pinning Him (as it were) to His Word. For God honors His Word and His name (Psalm 138:2). As you begin praying in a believing way, trusting that God will honor His Word in His own time, you will experience the answers of God.
This praying God’s Word becomes thoroughly addicting, and I have found that I cannot wait to get up in the morning to meet with God. I know I am going to hear from Him in His Word, and I am going to pray that Word back to Him, knowing He hears His Word and answers all prayers that are according to His Word.
Do you see how this has the power to set you free? That God will work through His Word in this way? If so, begin today by selecting a passage of Scripture to pray back to God. I look forward to hearing how God answers your prayers.
