The Path to Sin
Eve saw that the fruit was good for wisdom, and it was “pleasing to the eye.” Satan always uses something tantalizing to tempt us. He appeals to our senses - sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. I used to see advertisements for alcohol which would begin to dominate my thinking until I just had to go get drunk. Maybe you can remember how simply seeing something tempting, even pictures in our mind of that substance would drag us into sin. We must be aware of Satan’s schemes and take the appropriate precautions.
Hiding: A Natural Response to Sin

Hiding is the natural response to personal sin. We run and hide from God, knowing within ourselves that we are naked and exposed to His anger against sin. And we try to hide our sin from others fearing what they will think or do.
In what ways have you tried to hide your sin? Mine were so numerous I exhausted myself in attempts to hide!
Adam and Eve not only hid in the garden, but they also tried to cover their nakedness with fig leaves. This is the religion of man: attempting to deal with sin and to be right with God through self-effort.
Today, Adam and Eve sewing coverings of fig leaves is equivalent to the signing of commitment cards or purity contracts, working the program, completing the steps, making vows and promises, and doing all you can to keep God's law. In the heat of temptation, these self-efforts will shrivel up and fall away like those fig leaves in the garden.
Sin's Self-Centeredness
Notice too that sin makes us very self-centered. After Adam’s sin, God came looking for Adam, asking “Adam, where are you?” And then, Adam answered using a word he has never used before. He uses it four times in one sentence: He answered:
“I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
