Lesson 20: Faith in the Message of the Cross Unlocks Our Captivity to Sin

Question 1

Marco Polo of Mike’s teaching: Monday 17th May 2021

“But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.”
Galatians 3:22 NIV
“We know that we are from God, and the whole world is under the power of the evil one.”
1 John 5:19 NTE
“Jesus did this so that, by dying, he could destroy the one who has the power of death—the devil.”
Hebrews 2:14b ERV
“for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”
1 John 5:4 NIV
From the teaching today:
“It is literally amazing that when you and I put faith in the message of the cross, in this rescue that happened at Calvary, our prison cell is unlocked. We are no longer under the rule, the dominion, the power, the overpowering force of sin. Why? Because we are rescued from the kingdom of darkness and brought into the kingdom of Jesus Christ. We are no longer mastered by sin because Jesus came with the key and He hung on that key and He shed His blood to forgive you and to free you. And now finally, finally, there is no more: “I’m messing up, I’m not living as I should, I do not measure up, I can’t clear the bar”. That’s all in the Old Covenant. Now our eyes are on Jesus. It’s no longer: “I don’t…I can’t… I’m not…” Now we see that in Jesus, we cleared the bar by a mile, we measured up in Him, we met the standard, finally we have lost all sense of guilt and enslavement to sin because of the cross. And we believe…we put faith, we’ve trusted in, we’ve rested in the message of the cross. And we believe and faith is the victory. This is the victory that has overcome the world - even our faith.”
