The Gospel for the Church

Become and make disciples

This course is written to anyone who wants to take the instruction of Jesus Christ to heart, to “go and make disciples of all nations.” It is written for church leaders, church members, and non church goers; indeed, any and all who want to know how to become and how to make a disciple of Jesus, what message to use, and what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Alex writes, "Friend, whether you are struggling with besetting sin or are struggling to believe that you can be good enough to be saved, or you feel like the messages you are hearing elsewhere have no power to help you and offer no true hope—this course will be a breath of fresh air and will point you to the only message that has the power of God for salvation and for sanctification. Many churches have departed from preaching about the cross of Christ and only talk about how to raise your kids, how to feel better about yourself, how to improve your marriage, or how to find fulfillment at work. None of those topics is the gospel of Jesus Christ. And for that reason, none of those topics will change the hearts and lives of people. Only the true message of the gospel has the power to change hearts and lives—and that is the message of the cross of Christ; His death for our sins and His resurrection on the third day. This course focuses like a laser on the cross of Christ, the message that will pierce your heart and heal your heart. The message that Paul says is of “first importance.” Once you understand the message of the cross, and receive it by faith in Christ, that will change your heart and your life. Then you will start to find freedom from besetting sins, your marriage will start to improve, etc. Those are fruit of the gospel. But the church needs the true gospel, the message of the cross of Christ. And this course has that message and that ministry that the church needs so desperately today!"

The course is now available in print to allow for group study. Click on the book image for more details. For more encouragement from Erick, read his blog.

Loyalty programs are quite popular these days. To join, all you need to do is offer up your name and phone number. One step, and now you are a loyal member of the community and entitled to all the benefits of it.
Many churches have adopted this approach as well. Just “pray the sinner’s prayer”, raise your hand in response to a message, walk an aisle indicating your decision to follow Christ, or fill out a connection card, and you will be added to the community as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
But is this what becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ is all about?
Jesus Christ, after His death and resurrection, was given all authority in heaven and on earth. And as the Head of the Church, He has instructed us to “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19). All believers are to be engaged in making disciples, and we minister in Jesus’ name and with Jesus' authority when engaged in this work of making disciples.
But how do we make disciples? And what is a true disciple of Jesus Christ? What message do we use in making disciples, and what is the evidence that someone is a disciple of Jesus Christ?
This course is written to anyone who wants to take the instruction of Jesus Christ to heart, to “go and make disciples of all nations.” It is written for church leaders, church members, and non-churchgoers; indeed, any and all who want to know how to become and how to make a disciple of Jesus, what message to use, and what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Come and learn from God’s Word, as taught by Setting Captives Free Board Member Erick Hurt, on what true disciple making is. Let’s pray that the church, worldwide, catches the passion that Jesus had as He went to the cross, suffered and died, then rose again to make disciples!
