Lesson 27 God Opens Our Hearts in Serving Others

Questions 3 and 4

Paul wanted the believers to whom he was writing to submit to Stephanus and his family. After all, they were giving their lives in service to others, they should be supported in their efforts. The gospel that Stephanus was giving out would bless the life of anyone who embraced it, it would grow and mature them in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Paul was telling the Corinthians that Stephanus was doing the right thing and so they should submit to his leadership.

Question 3. According to 1 Corinthians 16:16 above, to whom else were the people to listen and submit?

Here Paul broadens out his instruction to “anyone who joins in the work and labors at it.”
Notice the word “anyone” there? This word encompasses each and every person who has a desire to serve others, to minister the gospel to them and to work on their behalf regardless of their past or station in life.
When God gets a hold of someone, He changes their heart by showing them Jesus uplifted on a cross for them. Then He calls them to come and work in His kingdom. God gives us His love and then enables us to share it with others.
Ephesians 2:8-10 NIV  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  (9)  not by works, so that no one can boast.  (10)  For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
