John was sad because there was no one to open the book of life; and as long as that was the case: eternal life remained sealed, death reigned, and the grave was victorious.
Question 3. What happened to change this sadness into worship according to Revelation 5:5?

Charlene writes: The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, the Lamb! Reading this just makes my heart leap. Oh what an awesome thing when Jesus shows up, standing for us because He had defeated death and conquered the grave for me. He was and is worthy even when I wasn't!
And here is the key to the entire passage. Do you remember how I said (many lessons ago now) that the gospel is the key that will unlock every Bible passage and make it clear? Here is a perfect example:
Jesus is shown as a “Lion of the Tribe of Judah” and a “Lamb looking as if it had been slain.” Jesus is strong and bold, the King of kings and Lord of lords. But He is also a Man Who died on a cross, a Lamb who was slain for the sins of the world. He is strong and powerful, but also gentle and loving.
And this Lamb, through His death and resurrection, has overcome death, hell and the grave. He has not only purchased our freedom from sin but also our eternal life. He opened the Book of Life for us! Yes! Praise Him!
And notice what happens to this crowd of people: John, the elders, the angels, every living thing in Heaven falls and worships Jesus! You see the world had been exposed to death for so long and now Jesus, through His death, has opened up eternal life for all who believe. “Ahh!”
It’s as if they were panting in the heat of death for so long, then Jesus came, died and rose again, overcoming death for them, giving them eternal life. And they just worshiped and worshiped.
Oh friend, this true worship is addicting. What is worship? Verse 12 above describes it: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
Worship is ascribing worth to Jesus! It is praising Him! It is by no means limited to singing to Him though it certainly includes that. We can worship in as many ways as we like, indeed we are supposed to worship, and because of the gospel we can worship, all throughout our day. We can worship at work, in school, at home, in church, whenever and wherever we are.
