Lesson 19: Eyes Fixed on Jesus

Testimonies of Freedom

Meli's Testimony

Meli writes,
Since taking the purity course at Setting Captives Free, I've learned there is no freedom from bondage to sexual impurity if we do not start with the gospel and apply it to our lives every-single-day. Being in Christ is warring against the flesh. And walking in Spirit is only possible when we keep the gospel of Jesus in our hearts and minds always. That is how the Lord works life in us. The first thing I learned from this course that will stick with me forever is how through Jesus, I am set free from all guilt and impurity only because of Christ's sacrifice and his grace towards me. I used to live in fear because of my past sinful life. I thought I had to strive to be holier and anointed by living a sanctified life, and though as a Christian, I must strive to live a holy life before God, I was doing it the wrong way. I did not know the gospel very well, so I was trying to accomplish holiness out of my strength, which only made me proud and self-righteous. I used to feel that I was better than other Christians, but at the same time, I was feeling hunted by my past because I knew I still had struggles with impure thoughts. I am thankful that God used this course to teach me the gospel throughout the Bible and its different illustrations because I had never seen the gospel in those Old Testament stories. Sometimes it is still hard to believe that God would declare me righteous and pure only by the work of Christ, even when I stumble. However, I've learned that I have to receive God's gift of forgiveness and grace, which is the very key to get back up and continue fighting against my flesh. Not out of my own righteousness but out of a heart that knows that Jesus is the only way, truth, and life, and that acknowledges by God's mercy that there is no other way to live an abundant life but remaining in Him forever. All glory be to God! I recommend this course. This course is biblical and Christ-centered. The hope this course gives us is to be transformed entirely by the Holy Spirit as one is exposed to the gospel. So really, the work is done only by God through the presentation of His word."

Blane's Testimony

Blane writes,
The Setting Captives Free Purity Boot Camp course has shown me how crucial Christ's sacrifice was in not only freeing me from sin's penalty but also in cleansing me through the Holy Spirit. It has guided me to fall more in love with Christ by returning to the cross and learning to live in the finished work of Christ and the power of His Spirit. I have seen how crucial the cross is in my daily walk with God.  It was not just the initiation into God's life; it continues to be the solution even after accepting the cross.  The blood that Christ shed on the cross shows me that this is how Christ cleanses His followers of all unrighteousness. I must continually look to the cross to cleanse me from my sin. I must also follow Christ's example in following through with God's will despite the pain, suffering, or inconvenience it may provide. The cross is not just a one-time deal; we need to come to the cross every day. It is God's solution to all the sin and brokenness that is in the world. Also, God is faithful in providing a battle plan. When you ask Him for a specific battle plan to ensure victory for your struggles with the will to do it, God will secure triumph in your life.  Again, look to the cross to surrender to the battle plans; Christ surrendered to His Father's battle plan to ultimately defeat the powers of sin and darkness. It will humble you to see that you still, even though you may be a believer, need Christ. Don't try to graduate past Him; take graduate school with your teacher the Holy Spirit to make you fall more in love with Christ and return to the cross. The cross not only kills the sin but also kills the source of sin. Through this course, I have been guided by the Holy Spirit to worship Christ and His actions on the cross.  I see Him and the cross everywhere in the Bible now.  It all points to Him, the Son of Love Himself, giving us life. Our identity is not in sin.  No more can you say that you "sin"; there is sin living with you, but it's not you. The believer is a new creation in Christ, no longer beating with the heart of a sinner.  However, the believer will still have to battle with the cancer of sin from their flesh. Again, it takes returning to the cross to surrender and defeat the sin. If you want freedom, you have to wrestle with God about it in prayer. Since this freedom from sin is something that God desires of us, we show our resolution to change by praying the promises in the Scriptures that He gave to us until they are fulfilled. This course will change your perspective on the cross and life. You will see how inescapable the cross is to a believer in his daily walk.
