Lesson 1: Heart Change
Questions 1 and 2
Greetings friend, my name is Mike Cleveland; I’ll be walking with you through the 30 lessons in this book, and I’m praying that Jesus Christ will set you free.
If the Son sets you free you will be free indeed!
John 8:36
Course Overview
The lessons were designed to be completed one per day. It is best to take your time so that you have the opportunity to assimilate the truths and apply them to your life. Be thoughtful about your answers. Try not to give one word or one-sentence answers.
Additionally, it can be helpful to take notes along the way. A friend of mine wrote to me halfway through the course and said:
I would put a header for each lesson in my Word program, and then copy insights from the lesson of the day under that lesson heading in my notes. That way, when the course is complete, I will have accumulated a large resource of ideas that God revealed within the course, and from which lesson that insight was derived.
A Testimony of Freedom
I spent many years not free. I was enslaved to lust which, for me, took the forms of pornography and sexual impurity. I’m a pilot and as I would fly to different cities and go to the hotel on layovers, I would gorge myself on pornography, which eventually led to adultery and all the other problems that come with it. I lived this way for 15 years of my life!

Several years ago, God changed my life, setting me free from all forms of impurity, and I’ve been enjoying freedom ever since. How did it happen?
God changed my heart, first and foremost. This was His promise, to change His people’s hearts, giving them new desires, and move them to follow Him, as stated in the New Covenant promise of Ezekiel 36:
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
Ezekiel 36:26-27 (NIV)
Question 2. What is God’s promise as recorded in Ezekiel 36:26-27?
