Lesson 8 Washing at the Cross: Our New Identity

Questions 7, 8 and 9

Jesus “died to sin” and He “lives to God.” Think of the implications of this as we consider how to apply the gospel to ourselves:
Jesus died to sin. Likewise, we are to die to sin. In my life, this meant that I was to die to layovers filled with pornography and that I was to die to social media that led to sexual impurity; indeed, I was to die to that entire way of living.

Question 7. Thinking of your own life and temptations just now, in what specific areas do you see you need to die to sin?

Now, Jesus lives to God. His life is pointed God-ward, away from sin and toward His heavenly Father. As I considered this truth, I realized that I was to point my entire life toward God. I was to find my new life in Him by studying His Word and praying to Him, attending a church where the gospel is preached, learning how to “Walk by the Spirit,” etc.

Question 8. Why is it essential that we live our new life pointed toward God?
