Lesson 45 Washing at the Cross: Jesus’ Death Defeats Satan
Questions 1 and 2
Greetings friend, welcome!
The Christian has three powerful enemies: the world, the flesh, and the devil.
The world seduces us with its glitter, bright lights, and offers of happiness and success. This is what pornography excels at, right?
The flesh trips us up with its evil desires and lust for wrong things.
The devil deceives us with his half-truths and his empty promises. If you were involved in pornography or sexual impurity for any length of time, you know the power of Satan and how he can take us captive (2 Timothy 2:24-26).
Today we want to look at how Satan is defeated and how we are set free from his power.
Please read the following passage of Scripture and answer the questions below:
Hebrews 2:14-15 ESV Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, (15) and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
God is Spirit (John 4:24), and as such, He could never die, so He took on flesh and blood so that He might die for us and destroy Satan.
1 John 3:8b ESV The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
Colossians 2:15 NIV And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, which He did when He triumphed over him by the cross. At the cross, Jesus broke Satan’s power, destroyed his works, and triumphed over him.
Question 2. According to Hebrews 2:15, what was the result of Jesus destroying the devil?
