Lesson 49 Warring Against the Flesh: Jesus is Our Life Source, Illustrated

Questions 5 and 6

Next, please notice Genesis 41:55:
“When all Egypt began to feel the famine, the people cried to Pharaoh for food. Then Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph and do what he tells you.”
This is how we find life in Jesus: “go to Jesus, and do what He tells you.”
Friend, no matter how far you’ve gone in impurity, you can now go to Jesus and receive all the grace you need, grace to leave impurity, and grace to obey Jesus. He will provide for you like Joseph provided for his brothers who had sinned against him. He will give you everything you need for life and godliness; He will be your Vine.
Our role is to go to Him daily, to remain in Him, to live in Him, to dwell in Him, to be obedient to Him. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5 NIV).

Oh, friend, how important it is to come to Jesus daily, even moment by moment, and receive. Look up at the cross and see Jesus thirsting in order to quench your thirst. See Him bleeding to atone for your every sin. See Him being wounded so that you would be healed. See Him giving up His Spirit so that you would receive the Spirit and walk by the Spirit. See Him dying so you can live. Do you see what Jesus went through to become your Vine? Your source of life?
Look how the young lady in Song of Solomon found her “Lover” to be her “Vine,” her source of life:
Song of Solomon 2:3-5 NIV Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste. (4) Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love. (5) Strengthen me with raisins, refresh me with apples, for I am faint with love.
