Lesson 54 Warring Against the Flesh: Justified by Jesus’ Resurrection
Questions 8 and 9
Oh, think about this for a moment, friend. Jesus was delivered up for you, meaning He was handed over to punishment, delivered up for crucifixion, for your trespasses. He paid the penalty for your sin to free you from its debt. He was delivered to the cross that you might be delivered from sin. Oh, what grace this is! Oh, what love He had for you and me!
Then, Jesus was raised to life. Because Jesus rose from the dead, you are justified from your sins by faith. And justified means “just as if I’d never sinned” and also “just as if I’d lived a perfect life”! Jesus overcame your sin through His death and declared you righteous through His resurrection.
Think about this: if your sin debt was not paid in full, Jesus would still be in the grave paying for it. The fact that He rose means sin’s payment was made and accepted. From a legal perspective, you are justified from all sins and are free to go, all because of what Jesus did for you!
So here is what we need to understand from today’s lesson: Jesus rose from the dead, and through faith in Him, we are raised as well. Though weak in ourselves, we have God’s resurrection power, supernatural power to raise us from our tomb of sin. We access this power by faith, just like Abraham did who was “strengthened in his faith.”
In closing, please take a moment and look at the cross of Jesus, and His empty tomb right now. Do you see what Jesus has accomplished for you there? Do you see His love that took Him to the cross, and the power it took to raise Him from the dead? Do you know that He has set you free from sin’s penalty at death and is setting you free from sin’s power through resurrection?
Friend, trust the message of the cross, trust God’s power in raising Jesus from the dead, and let it not only declare you righteous but also set you free from sin’s power! Now that’s the way to pure!
