Lesson 9 Washing at the Cross: Our New Identity Part 2

Question 7

See what an amazing thing happened at the cross? When Jesus died on the cross, you died to your harsh husband, the Law. You died “through the body of Christ” to that tyrant that always required your perfection, that continually judged you as unworthy and that condemned you to death.
Now you are united to Jesus, by faith. This is your new identity.
And Jesus is such a loving husband! He gives you grace, pardons all your wrongs, covers over your sin, walks with you in love and friendship daily, lifts you up when you stumble, prays for you, helps you continually, loves you intimately and bears fruit through you. He is your husband who loves you, your Lord Who leads you, and your King who reigns in you by grace (see Isaiah 54:4-5).
At the cross we died to the Law, we “died to that which held us captive” (Romans 7:6); and now we “Walk by the Spirit” as we love and serve God.
Do you see your new identity? You are dead to sin and alive to God. You are no longer “married” to the law, who condemned you; rather you are “married” to Christ who loves you.

Jefferson writes, "I no longer live to the bondage of the law; I live in the freedom of grace. Through Christ’s sacrifice, I can live holy, in freedom, with power. When I remove the focus from my sin and to His grace, my life not just begins to change, I already am changed."
