Lesson 21 Warring Against the Flesh, Fleeing Temptation

Questions 6, 7 and 8

Joseph left his outer coat in the arms of his master’s wife, but at least he, himself, didn’t end up in her arms. Better to lose a good coat than a good conscience.
Sometimes when we flee from sin it might cost us something, we might lose something to get away immediately. It might cost us a cell-phone, a TV, Cinemax or HBO subscription, Internet access or a Kindle book. It might cost us a relationship, association with friends who are impure or a “fun” night out with the guys.
Jesus gave up His life to make you pure. He gave up His body's blood, His last breath of air, and His Spirit as well. What you have to give up to flee sin could never compare with Jesus’ giving up His entire life for you.

Question 6. What might it cost you to flee?

Please reread this passage:
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 ISV Keep on running away from sexual immorality. Any other sin that a person commits is outside his body, but the person who sins sexually sins against his own body. (19) You know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God, don't you? You do not belong to yourselves, (20) because you were bought for a price. Therefore, glorify God with your bodies.

Question 7. How does Paul bring the motivation for running away from sexual immorality back to the cross?

Paul reminds them of the cross: “you were bought for a price!” As if he said, “Remember how Jesus laid down His life for you, to buy you out of sin.”
We must never forget the price Jesus paid for us. Jesus gave you His all, His last drop of blood and last gasp of air, His whole life and His Spirit. He held nothing back, laying down His entire life out of love for you. He purchased you at an unimaginable price so that you would become His possession. And now your body is His; it is not yours because Jesus bought it at a great price.
Therefore glorify God with your body. Don’t unite it to a prostitute. Don’t join it to any form of sexual immorality. Don’t fill your mind with "dead mouse" images from the enemy and use your own hands to sin against your own body. Instead, “flee from sexual immorality!”
