Yes, we conquer Satan “through the blood of the Lamb.” We learn how to fight despair and guilt by looking away from ourselves to the One Who “made an end to all my sin.” That’s where we look when Satan’s devastating accusations begin to penetrate. So the cross is the foundation of our overcoming Satan.
This is precisely what Jesus taught in John 12:31-33:
John 12:31-33 ESV Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. (32) And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” (33) He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die.
Question 5. According to John 12:31-33, what happened when Jesus was “lifted up from the earth” at the cross?
So we are told in these verses of Scripture that Jesus Christ gained the victory for us when He died on the cross. There Satan was cast out and defeated.
If you want to have victory over Satan, you must often look to the cross, and cling to it as your defense.
Second, “they have conquered him by the word of their testimony.”
When we give a word of testimony as to how the cross has changed us, we experience God’s power, and we conquer Satan. “And they have conquered him…by the word of their testimony.”
A testimony is not a life story. When asked to share a testimony, someone might start with where they were born and what life was like growing up, how they ended up living where they are, what they do for a living, how God has been good to them, etc. This is not a testimony. Anyone from any religion could share a story like this.
A Christian testimony is about the death and resurrection of Jesus, how it is changing your heart and life. God has given you your testimony as a powerful weapon against the enemy, as a means of conquering him in your life. But only a testimony, which focuses on what the cross/resurrection of Jesus has done in your life, is what powerfully defeats the enemy.
Question 6. Please share a short testimony of the power of the cross, and what it is accomplishing in your heart and life.

Roland writes, "Before this course, I did not think a lot about the Power of the Cross. I did not realize it but somehow I believed that I will always be in sin and the only thing I can do is try harder and harder to resist temptation. My million failures made me bitter and angry at God. Thanks to this course I started to realize the importance of Jesus and the Cross, and my heart started to change. I still sin in many ways and need to look at the Cross clearly, but at least now I have something and Someone to look at. Praise the Lord!"
