Molly gave an insightful answer to the above question:
"We go to the cross and we can abide there. Going there affects the way that we think it changes our hearts and the way that we behave. Looking each day to Jesus by going to God's word remembering ourselves before him that he is Holy and we are not yet he chose to wound his only son for us is the place where we begin and in doing so our hearts that are so bent toward pleasing ourselves and gratifying our flesh will change into ones that want to please God and thank God for how he wounded his only son's flesh for us. waiting until a hunger pang will no longer feel like suffering in comparison to how he suffered."
Likewise, Wende's answer was very helpful:
"This used to be so elusive to me. My heart was hardened by clinging to to the promises of worthless idols (programs, clubs, plans, books etc.) When my brain was stuffed with all these false promises and lies, I could not comprehend how washing at the cross related to what I put in my mouth. I would pray for victory and deliverance through my efforts and only hear crickets. The idols effectively blocked out the Truth and made God's still, small voice impossible for me to hear leaving me unable to make a spiritual victory with my food issues. Now I look to the cross, let Jesus do the washing, purifying and empowering. My habitual sin is being crucified!"
In this lesson, we will learn how to experience lasting freedom from the domination of our flesh so that sin no longer masters us.
“For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.” Romans 6:14 (NIV)
All people are born under Law and, therefore, subject to sin’s slavery, to condemnation and eternal punishment. To be free, we must be legally removed from being under Law and placed under God’s grace.
Why is this? We can see the reason why from 1 Corinthians 15:56: “For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.” All who are under the Law are under the power of sin.
Practically speaking, under the Law, I was making choices that were sinful, living in bondage to sin; sin had power in my life: I was enslaved to food, impurity, alcohol, laziness, greed, and all sorts of other fleshly activities.
But now let’s consider one of the amazing miracles that happened at the cross:
