Revelation 1:5 reveals the motive of Jesus Christ, that which compelled Him. It tells us that Jesus loves us so much that He went to the cross. Jesus’ loving heart led Him to the cross. John learned this from Jesus’ Himself, as Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends” (John 15:13).
Think how much love Jesus had, how His passionate love for you must have burned white-hot in His heart like a flame. So much fiery love erupted from Jesus’ heart when considering us that He willingly faced the arrows of God’s wrath and, for the joy set before Him, drank the cup of judgment in our place.
Perfect love for us, His eternal Bride, drove Jesus onward clear to the end, to face His executioners who lifted Him up to be crucified on a torture instrument, a cruel Roman cross. Wow, this is love like the world has never known before, love beyond words, love without end, amen!
John knew it was love that drove Jesus to the cross because earlier he wrote, “It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end” (John 13:1).
At the cross, Jesus loved us to death and back. He proved how hotly the fire of His love burned for us, so much so that the waters of our sin could not quench the fire of His love. Indeed, “many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away” (Song of Solomon 8:7).

I want to say a big "Amen!" to Wende's thoughts below, how about you?
"Calvary's love, the white hot love of Jesus as he willingly took my arrows and died to pay my debt, melts and draws my hard and distant heart. Father, I pray for a soft heart that often and easily melts whenever I look to the cross. Help me dwell there and never leave that place. Help me to never drift or be distracted by the false gods that took up so much of my time and mind in the past. Wash all of that out of me, make me a clean and pure vessel to be filled with You!"
Likewise, Chris' comments are edifying:
"Calvary’s love which Jesus made us worthy to receive is where God’s wrath meets His perfect love at the cross of my Savior & Lord Jesus Who paid all my sin debt through His death. Jesus didn’t deserve God’s wrath being perfect and God Himself putting on flesh. But it was the only way for God’s wrath to be satisfied against me. So Jesus being the only perfect One without sin or blemish took my place and redeemed me through His shed blood and resurrected life giving me His righteousness nature in place of my sin nature. Let my heart continuously rejoice and wash at the cross daily so I am empowered & filled & controlled by God’s Spirit to love and serve Him and others, including enemies."
