Perhaps you think that the only hindrance to your healing is your spouse and their sin struggles. But, dear friend, there are usually additional issues in the marriage. There are heart issues—yours and your spouse' s—which must be addressed by Jesus for healing to come.
As we have seen in previous lessons, we are all sinners in need of salvation and sanctification. We cannot force our spouse to accept Christ or to repent, but neither can we blame them for our sin issues. One person's sin does not excuse another's.
The good news is that there is healing for you and your marriage in Jesus. Even if you or your husband do not fully comprehend your need for healing, Jesus knows. Only Jesus has experienced all temptation (Hebrews 4:15), became sin itself (2 Corinthians 5:21), died and rose again overcoming sin, death, and hell on our behalf (Revelation 12:11). Only Jesus can truly comprehend the sickness (spiritual, physical, mental, emotional) of all people. You need not fear Jesus or His healing, but it might not come in the way you expect.
Notice that the healing of the sick man in John 5 does not happen the way he thought it would. From his conversation with Jesus, we can see that this man was fixed on the idea that his healing would come by him getting into the pool of Bethesda at just the right time. Never mind that he had been there for 38 years, and he still wasn't healed.
But we shouldn’t think ourselves any better; we’ve all had the wrong focus or solution in hand at one point or another in our lives. I can remember having a hurting heart and repeatedly turning to chips, cookies, chocolate, etc. for comfort. There was another season when I turned to Christian psychological counseling for healing. I could go on listing false sources that lured me but suffice it to say that every time I came away worse than before I started.

The world offers us a plethora of solutions for healing, but sadly, the world’s cures will always leave us empty and wanting. But the good news is that God has made a way for us that is higher, wiser and sufficient to the need (Isaiah 55:8-9).
And what is this higher and better way of healing that God has provided?
1 Peter 2:22-25 tells us:
He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were straying like sheep but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. (1 Peter 2:22-25)
By Jesus’ wounds we have been healed. Jesus bore your sin, took your punishment, and suffered your death that you might be forgiven, justified and sanctified. If you want to be healed, the healing is yours, but you must look to Jesus and follow Him, if you want to experience it.
Question 5. Considering 1 Peter 2:22-25, how do you feel about Christ and all that He endured to secure healing for you and your husband?
