Lesson 27: Physical Intimacy: Captivated by Love
Question 6
Physical intimacy within marriage is unique to the couple. There is no "one size fits all," which is why I have avoided specifics regarding frequency or style, but there are biblical principles given for guidance such as being available to our spouse and learning how to love them in a captivating way.
In closing, I want to show you that not only is enticing your spouse a wise and beautiful thing to do, but the concept is also rooted in the gospel.
You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you. Come with me from Lebanon, my bride; come with me from Lebanon. Depart from the peak of Amana, from the peak of Senir and Hermon, from the dens of lions, from the mountains of leopards. You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride; you have captivated my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace. How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine and the fragrance of your oils than any spice! Your lips drip nectar, my bride; honey and milk are under your tongue; the fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon. Song of Solomon 4:7-11
King Solomon speaks these eloquent words to his bride, but they also express the heart of our eternal Bridegroom to us.
Jesus says to us, "You are beautiful; there is no flaw in you." And why can He say this? Because His blood has washed us clean (Ephesians 5:2-27). He is captivated with us and intoxicated by the love which He has poured into our hearts. (Romans 5:5)
The gospel of Jesus restores the marriage bed and makes it a place of enjoyment and delight. When you love your spouse and draw them sexually, you are modeling the profound mystery of Christ and His Bride.
