Lesson 15: Exchanging Old for New at the Cross

Question 5

As you read through Colossians 3:12-14, did you notice that these are all attributes of Christ? Jesus is holy, beloved, compassionate, kind, humble, meek, patient, long-suffering, forgiving, and loving! Our goal is to be transformed from our old way of life into His...to be like Jesus.
It is imperative that we always remember Christ is our aim. We are not seeking to merely change behaviors; we want to be transformed into the image of our Lord through grace. And as we keep our eyes on Christ, think about His cross, consult Him in everything, we will find that this transformation happens from the inside out (2 Corinthians 3:18).
In our next lesson, we will continue our study of putting on our new life; I believe you’ll find it helpful. For now, I want to leave you with these encouraging words:
  • Jesus loves you and your husband (1 John 3:16).
  • Jesus knows the sorrows, confusion, unrest and questions of your life; and He has good news for you (Luke 4: 18-21).
  • Jesus offers joy in exchange for your sorrow (Jeremiah 31).
  • Jesus gives wisdom in exchange for your perplexed mind (James 1:5).
  • Jesus brings to you peace in exchange for your worry (Philippians 4:7).
  • Jesus is the answer to all of your questions (John 14:6).
  • Jesus is the One you are seeking; and if you seek Him, you will find Him (Matthew 7:7-8).
You need not despair, accept the status quo, or resign yourself to endure your situation. In Christ, change is possible! Do not believe the lies of this world, such as "once an addict always an addict." Remember 1 Corinthians 6:11, "And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." There is hope for change through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
