Lesson 10: Living as New Creations in Christ

Questions 3 and 4

It is the love of Christ that compels and should control all believers! So, the first thing we can know about who we are in Christ is that we are loved. And this love is not temporary or faltering as human love might be. No! God loves us with an eternal and unchanging love that is so great that nothing can separate us from it (Romans 8:35-39). The cross of Jesus Christ is absolute proof of this truth (see John 13:1 and 1 John 3:16).

Question 3. According to 2 Corinthians 5:14-15, what was it that convinced Paul that Christ loved him?

Jesus’ death on the cross was the proof of His love for us all.
Out of love, God sent His only Son, Jesus, into the world, not to condemn you but to save you. Christ suffered and died an agonizing death to give you life eternal and life abundant. Jesus’ loving heart was pierced for your sake to fill your heart with His everlasting love (Romans 5:5). And He rose again to give you a new life in Him.
It is His divine, heart flooding love with which you are loved that is to control you as you live your new life in Jesus. The love of Jesus compels you, friend, to love and forgive those who have sinned against you, and to look at them not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit (2 Corinthians 5:16).
