Lesson 10: Living as New Creations in Christ

Question 5

I have tears running down my face as I write about and consider this amazing cross, this wondrous, life-giving love that God has poured out on us. As we believe in Christ and all that He has done on our behalf, how can we not fall to our knees in gratitude? Our Jesus took off His royal robes to clothe Himself in humanity and live among us, but we despised and rejected Him. We crucified the Lord of Glory by our sin, unbelief, and rebellion, but did He stomp off mad or throw us into Hell? No! He rose again, came back, and blessed us with His Spirit, and He lives today interceding for us and is soon to take us to heaven!
Does this affect your heart, dear friend? If so, then let the truth of the cross both flood your heart and dominate your mind today, and let it be the controlling force in your life. This is God’s will for you.
“and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer.” 2 Corinthians 5:15-16
Paul is speaking to the Corinthians so powerfully because he had experienced this great change in his own life. Paul once viewed Christ and His followers as those who should be persecuted and put to death (2 Corinthians 5:16), but then he “saw the Light” (Acts 22:6). He was cut in his heart at the sight of the cross and healed by Jesus’ love and power, and then his whole viewpoint changed (Acts 9:1-22). After he received Jesus’ love, Paul gladly identified himself as belonging to Christ. He looked at everyone with eyes of love and hope, knowing that if Christ could change him, then there was hope for all.

Question 5. Considering how Christ loved you at the cross, how does this help you to respond to your spouse and their sin struggles differently?
