Lesson 9: Jesus is Sufficient for Redemption

Questions 4 and 5

“Oh, fear the Lord, you, his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! 10 The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” Psalms 34:9-10

Question 4. Young lions are fierce, cunning, strong, but when food is scarce they go hungry. Yet believers are fed with "bread from heaven", "honey from the rock," and the big and full fruit from the Promised Land (all pictures of Christ). According to Psalm 34:9-10, what do those who seek the Lord lack?

My friend, if we are believers, we must understand and come to know by experience all the resources we have in Jesus Christ. He is sufficient for our every need; He is adequate for all that we require. In Christ, we have "everything we need for life and godliness" (2 Peter 1:3); we are "complete and equipped" (2 Timothy 3:17) in Him, and we "lack no good thing" (Psalm 34:9-10). Jesus Christ, to us, is what the loaves and fishes were to the multitude-more than enough. "They ate and were filled. Then they collected seven large baskets of leftover pieces" (Mark 8:8).
Surely the Israelites, who knew and loved God, were made to understand the sufficiency of the sacrifice when no lamb was ever too small for a house regardless of the size of the family. The lamb was always sufficient for the needs of every member of every house, and if there was more lamb than members of the house, they would share with their neighbor. Oh, the incredible provision of God in the cross of Christ!
Now let us continue our study to complete this picture of redemption:
“Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, 6 and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight.7 Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8 They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it.” Exodus 12:5-8

Question 5. According to Exodus 12:5, how old was the lamb to be? Keeping in mind that this lamb would have been full-grown and in the "prime of life," what does that teach us about Jesus, our "Passover Lamb"?
