Lesson 9: Jesus is Sufficient for Redemption

Questions 1, 2, and 3

How wonderful it is that "the Lord redeems the life of His servants" (Psalm 34:22). By His blood, Jesus redeemed us and released us from captivity to the devil, by His power He frees us from slavery to sin.
In lesson 8, we left our study with God's command that the Passover would be the "beginning of months” for the Israelite's new year. A new life in Jesus Christ begins with redemption, the purchase of blood.
O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, To every believer the promise of God; The vilest offender who truly believes, That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Now, we move on to more of the word-picture of redemption found in Exodus 12:
“Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household. 4 And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb.” Exodus 12:3-4
Oh, what life there is in God's Word. When we meditate on a passage of Scripture, not only are our minds renewed and our hearts inflamed with love for God, but also our souls become settled in the truth. For instance, the above passage teaches us a fundamental but often overlooked truth in today's world of step-classes, support groups, how-to meetings, etc. - a truth that should settle our hearts and souls in the sufficiency of Christ in the Word of God. The truth is this: Jesus Christ is sufficient!
Notice that the Israelites were to take a lamb for their household, one per family. But if the household was too small for a lamb, then the family could share with their nearest neighbor. Notice that the passage says "if the household is too small for the lamb," never "if the lamb is too small for the household." See it? Jesus Christ is "more than enough," always!
This is God's way of teaching us the sufficiency of Christ. He is illustrating here the truth that He teaches plainly in the following Scriptures:
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,” 2 Peter 1:3
