Lesson 21: Victory through Faith in the Cross
Questions 1, 2, and 3
In recent lessons, we have been studying how the cross of Jesus Christ provides us with victory over sin. Experiencing the freedom Jesus gives us from habitual sin should rejoice our hearts! Most of us previously tried long and hard to break free on our own, only to discover that we were genuinely captive to the power of temptation and sin; but now, like King David in the following verses, we rejoice in God’s victory on our behalf:
“O LORD, in your strength the king rejoices, and in your victory how greatly he exults! His glory is great through your victory; splendor and majesty you bestow on him.” Psalm 21:1,5
One of the most significant truths about our victory over sin is that real victory and our faith are inextricably linked:
“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:4-5
