“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:5-8

In these verses, we see that Jesus Christ emptied Himself, pouring out His life's blood for the forgiveness of sins, humbled Himself, making Himself "nothing," for our sakes He became "poor," and then, He gave up His Spirit and died.
The connection has become evident. Jesus Christ, the head of the body, the church, of man," and of all authority, emptied Himself, became nothing, and died on the cross at Golgotha, the "place of the skull." Jesus Christ died at the place of the empty and dead head.
And what was the purpose of His death? Well, among many other things, Jesus emptied Himself that we might receive of His fullness, grace upon grace.
