Lesson 18: The Cross Gives Us Eternal Life

Question 5

Paul is an example of God's patience and grace for all who will believe. Maybe some say in their hearts, "my sins are too bad, I've been in them too long, and there is no hope for me." Oh no, look at Paul, formerly Saul, who persecuted God's people and put them to death, and then see the amazing grace which transformed Paul's heart and life. Let this miraculous transforming work of God's grace give you hope! God changed a terrorist into an evangelist, a persecutor of the church into a preacher of the gospel; He can transform your heart and life as well.
Believe that in turning to Jesus, there will be plenty of grace, your sins will be forgiven, and you will receive eternal life as a gift. And through believing, you may know that you have eternal life.
“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.” 1 John 5:13
Yes, friend, one of the greatest blessings flowing from the cross of Jesus Christ is our eternal life. For believers, death and hell were swallowed up at the cross, and life and eternity were purchased on our behalf. We need no other refuge. Oh, rejoice with me in the cross! In Jesus, we have eternal life:
“Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life,” John 6:68
Pliny the Elder was a Roman writer who lived during the same time as Jesus. He recorded the account of the setting of a massive obelisk, which, when erect, would stand 99 feet tall. Twenty-thousand workers were chosen to pull on the ropes and activate the hoisting apparatus. The operation was one of great responsibility and risk. Just one error could cause the obelisk to fall, ruining years of work. To ensure the complete attention and best direction of the engineer in charge of placing the pillar, the King ordered the engineer's own son to be strapped to the apex of it so that the engineer's heart, as well as his head, would be given to the task.
One day on Calvary, God's only begotten Son, Jesus was raised on a cross before a sinful, jeering crowd, as the Father watched intently from heaven. God's heart and mind were on His Son that day. There, Jesus hung in death so that we might have eternal life. God has firmly established His Church through the raising of His Son; and we have eternal life through Jesus’ death on the cross!

Ralph writes:
"I am doing great today. Jesus’ death put us to death in Him, brings us life, and brings us abundant life, but it also brought us eternal life. Let anyone who is thirsty come to Jesus and drink. The rivers of living water will flow from the heart of those who believe in Jesus Christ."
Wendy writes:
"My heart is in awe at God's love for me! That God really would punish His own beloved Son for me to give me eternal life! It's a love beyond words and warms and refreshes my heart today!"
Mike L. writes:
"My heart is soaring with worship, loving the One who first loved me. God is so amazing, He gave me the FREE GIFT of eternal life by putting His Son to death on a cross, I am humbled and awestruck by His love, grace and mercy toward me. Lord Jesus, I love you so much and I am so looking forward to spending eternity with you, thank you for this amazing gift!"
