Lesson 7: Lifting the Cloud of Depression Through Faith in Jesus
Questions 7, 8 and 9
Let's make this practical:
You are driving home from church and feel like a complete fraud as you feel a million light years away from God with little faith. You are not ‘happy and clappy’ like the other people in church today who look as if they are really tuned into God.
Then you think back to when you received Jesus as your Lord and savior so long ago - oh how sweet that time of first love was! - and recall the start of your journey with God. So you turn on some cross-centered gospel music loudly in the car and listen carefully to the words of the songs. You start to feel your faith rising as you hear that your sins have been forgiven by the blood of Jesus, once and for all, and that He took your place on the cross. Thankfulness and belief rise in your heart. You hear in the song that all punishment, judgement and condemnation has been removed by the substitution of Jesus. You start praising God. You hear that God is the author of your faith and you start asking God for more faith to believe in Him. You hear that Jesus laid His body down on the cross so that there would be an eternal bridge between you and God that would never be broken.
As you re-hear the gospel, the warmth of God’s love is showing you that there is never any distance between God and yourself. God never forsakes you nor leaves your right hand. Your despairing feelings and thoughts are being put to death and you are being lifted up in resurrection power as you set your heart directly on the Person of Jesus Christ.
