Lesson 27: Seeing the Cross Transforms our Prayer Life
Questions 1 and 2
Greetings, friend, welcome back to the course!
“Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge” (Psalm 62:8 NIV).
Friend, I want you to have an experience in prayer that will lift you up out of your despair as you pour out your heart to God. I want you to encounter the Living God, your refuge: the God Who made you and the Son Who died for you. You can touch Him in prayer, and feel His touch. You can hear Him in prayer, and talk to Him. You can see His face, and He will see you. Yes, you can experience God in prayer. It’s beyond words to describe.
At one time though, I used to see prayer as a drudgery, something I was supposed to do but didn’t feel like doing, something boring that I would even fall asleep in the middle of.
Question 1. What has been your experience with prayer up to this point?

My experience of finding prayer to be dull and boring was before God started interacting with me in prayer. It is now a two-way conversation where I’ve learned to listen to Him in prayer and respond to Him in prayer, thereby interacting with the Living God! It’s amazing and powerful!
Before we get more into this lesson, we need to remember that Jesus is the One Who opened up the way for us to come into God’s presence in prayer. Before the cross, our access directly to God was blocked because of our sin, and God would not hear. Notice these passages:
When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood! Isaiah 1:15 NIV
But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. Isaiah 59:2 NIV
Question 2. Why would God not hear the prayer of people who were still in their sins?
