Lesson 16: God’s Power Accomplishes Three Amazing Things - An Inheritance Part 2

Questions 3 and 4

The second truth about our inheritance is:
  • God has given us an inheritance of salvation:
"Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" (Hebrews 1:14).
We might have had feelings of depression because some part of us believed that we were headed for hell. We deserved to be condemned, deserved damnation. We saw our sins, and they were huge; we saw how we had hurt not only God but other people. And we felt God would be justified to condemn us to hell.
But for those who believe in Jesus, this cannot be true. Jesus was condemned in our place. Jesus went to hell in our place (Ephesians 4:9-10; Acts 2:31); Jesus took our condemnation and gave us salvation.
When I finally understood this, that Jesus experienced condemnation that I might receive salvation, it was like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, like the feelings of a man condemned to die and then suddenly hearing he had been pardoned. Oh, what unspeakable grace our salvation is, and we inherit it! As a gift! Hallelujah!

Question 3. What does the thought that you will never be condemned for your sins do for your heart?

Tori writes, "It gives me gratitude. Who am I for Jesus to take my place for all the wrong I’ve done? Thank you Jesus for your love may I appreciate your sacrifice more and more. May you make it very known and personal to me of all you have done."
Carnell writes, "It is an indescribable feeling to know that I will never be condemned for my past sins. Jesus has taken on all the shame guilt and condemnation for me and I received salvation and abundant pardon. Thank you Jesus!!!!"
The third truth about our inheritance is:
  • God has given us the inheritance of His Holy Spirit.
"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole." He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit" (Galatians 3:13-14).
If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise" (Galatians 3:29).
Here is a shocking truth: all people are born cursed by God (Romans 5:12-16). That is, we are born separated from Him, doomed to live eternity apart from God because of our sins. I have a friend who told me that he secretly felt like he was cursed; maybe others feel that way too. This feeling of dark foreboding, of being cursed in life, is a great stressor and can be a painful source of depression. Maybe you've had thoughts like this or know someone who has.
But there is an ancient truth that God taught in His Word where He told the Israelites that if they hung someone up on a pole, like maybe one of their enemies or someone deserving of capital punishment, they were not to leave the body on the pole overnight, and the reason was, "cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole" (Deuteronomy 21:23).
And so Jesus came and was hung up on a pole, the cross, as He was under God's curse. He was separated from God for us, cursed by God that He might remove our curse and thereby give us His Holy Spirit. This promise is "to all who believe" (Galatians 3:14).
So think now about the fact that you are not cursed, but rather because of the cross, you are blessed by God. And now that the curse of sin has been removed from you, you can be in God's presence and live! When you put your faith in Jesus, He sent His Holy Spirit to you; that is, God Himself has come to live in you. As you walk around all day long, feel blessed by God since Jesus removed your curse.

Question 4. Your curse is removed. You are blessed by God. You have the Holy Spirit to live with you forever. What thoughts do you get when you think about all of this?

Wendy writes, "It's almost too good to be true, but that is such a human, earthly statement that I need to say, it is true because God said so in His Word! I am blessed!"
Carnell writes, "THE CURSE IS REMOVED.I AM BLESSED BY GOD! I HAVE THE HOLY SPIRIT WITH ME FOREVER!!!!!"
Tori writes, "It feels like the greatest gift, even how I see the Holy Spirit work and move in my life I cherish this gift. Thank you God that you have blessed me and been merciful, instead of giving me what I deserve."
