Lesson 17: God’s Power Accomplishes Three Amazing Things - An Inheritance Part 3

Questions 2 and 3

7. God has given us a priceless inheritance.
Please read the following passage:
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, (4) and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. (5) And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.

Believers live with “great expectation”, all because of the work of Jesus Christ. He died and rose again, having purchased our inheritance for us, and because of the certainty of His work, we look forward to being with Him with great expectancy. This is the opposite of “dark forebodings” that we discussed in a previous lesson.
If we were to look at our works, the way we have lived our lives, how well we have done or not done, most of us would be greatly discouraged. Indeed, this is often why we become depressed. Looking at ourselves we see how far short we fall, all the things we have done wrong, etc. Looking at ourselves leaves us hopeless and discouraged, even depressed.
But if we focus on the work of Jesus Christ we can live in hope.
This is because at the cross Jesus secured our eternity. He went to hell for us so that we can go to heaven with Him. He removed our sins so we can be holy. He was punished so that we can have peace with God. He died so we can live forever.
And yes, now we live with great expectations. You can really look forward to the future if you understand and believe what Jesus has done for you in the past.
Look to yourself and you’ll be discouraged and depressed, look to Jesus and you’ll be delivered and delighted.
