Day 2: Rescued from Disabling Fear

Questions 1 and 2

We now rejoice and marvel with the disciples saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” (Matthew 8:27).
What kind of man would draw all hostility and enemies to Himself and then die on a cross being ripped apart and crushed by every sinful storm of our lives so that we could be brought to safety and peace? (Isaiah 53:10)
Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name? Surely you know! Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Proverbs 30:4-5
“Because he has focused his love on me, I will deliver him. I will protect him because he knows my name. When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him in his distress. I will deliver him, and I will honor him.” Psalm 91:14-15 ISV

Applying the Gospel

Jesus is the One who takes us through the storms of life safely. We need not wait to seek Him as the disciples did; we can look to Him straightaway.
And while we could settle for a passing glance at the crucified Christ, it is only in long and meditative reflection on Christ's victory over sin and death for us that we will find joy for our souls, peace for our minds, and reassurance of God's love.
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 NIV [emphasis added]
“Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.” Hebrews 3:1 NIV [emphasis added]
“Therefore, if you have been raised with the Messiah, keep focusing on the things that are above, where the Messiah is seated at the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:1 ISV [emphasis added]

Question 1: God asks each of us this same question “Does your hope for freedom from fear and anxiety depend on an improvement in your circumstances? Or does your hope rest in Me and the finished work of My Son?” How would you answer Him from your heart?
