Day 13: Set Free from Fear by the Love of God
Questions 1 and 2
God loved you so much that He made a plan with the Son and the Spirit to rescue, redeem, save, and sanctify you. The cost was not two pennies, nor any monetary value: “No one can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for them - 8 the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough - 9 so that they should live on forever and not see decay.” (Psalm 49:7-9). No, only the precious blood of Jesus was enough to redeem your valuable life.
The cost was extraordinary. The love was inconceivable. Jesus did not spend His last penny but His last drop of blood from the piercing of the nails through His body so that we would be saved and kept safe throughout time and eternity.
Jesus exhaled His last gasp of air so we can now breathe a sigh of relief and experience rest in Him. Jesus offered His whole body to be bruised and beaten, and by His wounds, you are healed (1 Peter 2:24). Jesus faced utter abandonment so that you would never be forgotten. His suffering purchased your peace. Fear not, friend, you are forever loved and cared for in Jesus.
“God doesn’t abandon or forget even the small sparrow he has made. How then could he forget or abandon you? What about the seemingly minor issues of your life? Do they matter to God? Of course they do! So you never need to worry, for you are more valuable to God than anything else in this world” Luke 12:7 TPT
Jesus secured our eternal life through His death, and we can face all things on this earth, knowing our eternal future is secure. We never have to fear people or death, for, at the cross, we have experienced it once and have lived through it, in the body of Jesus Christ.
Singing gospel-focused hymns and songs to ourselves, our family, and friends in our times of fearfulness showers us with reminders of our irrevocable security in Christ. Our feet stand steady and still in God’s truth, as we sing out with the mighty power of praise to the One who defeated death (1 Corinthians 15:56) and claimed victory for us at Calvary. Would you take time to gather a list of such songs for your own and other’s encouragement? If you need inspiration, consider the Setting Captives Free playlist. May we delight and savor Jesus together in the following lyrics of the hymn by Helen Lemmel “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” based on Hebrews 12:2:
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conqu’rors we are!
His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Question 1: “God’s only begotten Son locked the door to Death and Hades for those who believe in His redeeming work and now our worst fear of death, which lies at the heart of all fears, has been destroyed.” How can you apply this truth to a struggle of fearfulness you are experiencing?

Question 2: "Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." (Matthew 10:31). Our value and worth is measured not by anything we have done but by the cost Jesus paid at Calvary. Would you please share your thoughts about your worth to God as measured by the price He paid to redeem you?

We will not fear man when we stand firm in Jesus’ finished work on the cross!
