Day 21: Run to the Peaceful Shelter of the Cross

Questions 1 and 2

David finally shares his wonderful learnings from his own life with us in verse 22:
“So here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and measureless grace will strengthen you.” Psalm 55:22 TPT
At the cross, Jesus’ hands were not wrapped protectively around His head in fear, but He opened His whole body and mind in its entirety to receive those things that burden our hearts. Can you see the Savior of the world with His arms raised high in a V shape dying and pleading with you:
"Let your burdens and fearful cares go, my precious child. Let them go. You have been clothed in the purity of the righteousness of My Son, not in ragged clothes of self-effort. Dwell on them no more. It is my utter joy to carry them for you. Cast each one to Me, and I will surely receive them all. And in its place, you will receive a bottomless sea of grace to sustain you and an inner rest that is so deep it seems as if you are floating liberated and carefree in water in the warmth of the sun. This is my love for you and the Good News I bring to you each moment.”
“casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].” 1 Peter 5:7 AMP
Applying the Gospel
Spurgeon once wisely said: “We may not complain of him, but we may complain to him.” https://archive.spurgeon.org/treasury/ps055.php
So often, Satan twists God’s word in our hearts and convinces us to back away from God without bringing our anxieties and grievances into His presence. The lie proceeds like this: “God is too holy to listen to small matters. You should be making yourselves blameless and innocent and without blemish by keeping your worries to yourself!” As a result of this untruth, we are left to dwell on our troubles. Talking with others can help, but we are likely to talk with and depend on people more than God if we do not regularly take our burdens to God.
Let’s put down our human-made masks that hide our fears and come before our Father God, who always smiles with loving approval. Come before Him and share even the smallest of anxious cares with Him, praying:
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name” Matthew 6:9
“God, listen to my prayer! Don’t hide your heart from me when I cry out to you! 2–3 Come close to me and give me your answer.” Psalm 55:1-3 TPT

Question 1: Can you recall an anxious situation you have faced or are facing at the moment, which was/is hardening your heart? Please describe what a fleshly reactionary way of coping (denying, white-knuckling, self-medicating, hiding, or striving ways) compared to a godly response of focusing on the blessings of the cross and God’s promises would look like specifically in your circumstances?

Question 2: “Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and measureless grace will strengthen you” (Psalm 55:22 TPT). In giving gospel encouragement to another person in your life, how would you explain this verse to comfort them with their ongoing worries?
